Here Be Dragons

With GPS now just another app on everyone’s phone, getting from point A to point B really isn’t that tough anymore.

But centuries ago – long before we had satellites or navigation systems, travelers relied on the best guess approximations their map makers could provide to chart their course from hither to yon.

They did the best they could.

But in those areas where they simply lacked sufficient information to produce any kind of accurate picture, instead the map-maker gave warning with pictures of dangerous beasties and monsters.

In fact, the early 16thCentury Hunt-Lenox globe included this warning to any who traveled to uncharted regions:

“Hic Sunt Dracones”

or

“Here Be Dragons!”

Thankfully, we have far fewer creatures of myth to deal with today – at least, when it comes to taking a vacation or simply getting to work in the morning.

But there are “dangers a-plenty” when it comes to navigating the uncertain waters of your strategic financial plan.   And the risks aren’t always what they seem, because it’s all too easy to flash warning signs about this economic indicator or that interest rate adjustment – without putting them into the proper perspective as to what truly matters to your finances, your goals, and your specific situation.

So – yes – there be “dragons” out there, but they can be avoided and / or controlled.
