It’s now a wonderful sing-a-long

Remember that famous line, “Every time a bell rings an angel gets its wings?”

It’s from Frank Capra’s 1946 holiday classic, “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

The film tells the story of George Bailey (played flawlessly in the film by Jimmy Stewart) who gets a second chance to see how the many lives he’s touched would change had he not appeared on the scene.

The movie was NOT an instant fan fave – even though it wasn’t a total box office disaster as some may claim, it didn’t really take off until many decades later… but now it’s considered by many one of the great Christmas films of all time.

And that seemed to be the end of the story…

Until recently, when Beatle Paul McCartney stepped forward to confirm that he’s currently working with British producer Bill Kenwright to create a musical based on the film.

According to a story in Deadline, McCartney had never really thought of writing a musical before, but he’s now excited about the opportunity as “It’s a Wonderful Life is a universal story we can all relate to.”

The current plan is for the musical to premiere somewhere in the UK in 2020, with a move to Broadway sometime soon after.

My guess is that there will be quite a few angels getting wings, as this endeavor strikes me as leading to a lot of cash registers ringing as the show hits the stage.

It just goes to show that quality never goes out of style.  And no matter what’s happening on the world stage – musical or otherwise – sharp investors are always keeping their eyes open to possibilities.
